About VE Day
Victory in Europe Day marks Germany's unconditional surrender, which took effect at 23:01 Central European Time on May 8, 1945, ending the Second World War in Europe.
It was already May 9 in Moscow, so Russia and several other countries mark Victory Day a day later.
