About the World Wide Web going public
On August 6, 1991, Tim Berners-Lee posted a summary of his World Wide Web project to the alt.hypertext newsgroup and invited people outside CERN to use it. It is the date usually given for the web going public.
CERN put the web's software into the public domain on April 30, 1993.
