Rune Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 13 October 2026

Who we are

Rune is an iPhone focus application operated by Norse Ventures LLC (“we”, “our”, “us”), based in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. This policy explains how information is handled when you use Rune.

Rune is local-first

Rune does not require an account. Your setup is stored on your device, including your connected Rune identifiers and names, focus status and recovery timestamps, protected-app selections, and boundary rules.

Rune does not upload this setup to a Norse Ventures account or backend. Deleting Rune normally removes its local data.

Screen Time and NFC

Rune uses Apple’s Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity frameworks to let you choose and shield apps, categories, and websites. Apple provides Rune with protected selection tokens rather than your underlying Screen Time history. Rune does not receive your browsing history or a record of how you use other apps.

If you connect a physical Rune, the app reads that NFC tag’s hardware identifier and may write a Norse Ventures quick-launch link to a compatible blank tag. The identifier is stored locally so Rune can recognize that tag later.

Anonymous usage statistics

Rune sends a few anonymous events to PostHog, our analytics provider, so we can see whether people use the app and how many reach Rune Pro. The events are: the app was opened, a setup step was reached, setup was finished, a physical Rune was connected, a boundary was started or ended (and whether that was with a physical Rune, the Virtual Rune, or the emergency unlock), the Rune Pro offer was shown, a purchase or restore was tried, for which plan, and how it ended, and the app asked the App Store to show its rating dialog. Each event carries the app and iOS version, whether the app came from the App Store or TestFlight, and a random identifier created on your device.

The events never include the apps, categories, or websites you block, your Rune identifiers or names, your rules, how long a boundary lasted, your name, email, Apple ID, advertising identifier, or any text you enter. PostHog discards IP addresses for Rune and does not build a profile of you. The data is not used for advertising or shared with data brokers, and is kept for up to one year. Deleting Rune removes the random identifier.

Optional network services

  • Tag recommendations. Rune may request a small recommendation catalog from norseventures.co. Like a normal web request, this can expose standard connection information such as your IP address and user agent to our hosting provider. Recommendation links open external retailers; if you choose one, the retailer receives normal connection information and handles it under its own privacy policy.
  • Support purchases. If you open or use the optional “Buy me a coffee” purchase, Apple processes the payment and RevenueCat helps Rune load the product and purchase history. We do not receive your payment-card number.
  • Email support. If you contact us, we receive your email address and whatever information you choose to include so we can respond.

Sharing and sale of information

We do not sell your personal information and Rune contains no advertising. Information is shared only with the service providers needed for anonymous usage statistics and the optional services above, when you direct us to share it, or when required by law.

Retention and your choices

Rune’s app data remains on your device until you change or delete it, reset Rune, or uninstall the app. Support emails are kept only as long as reasonably needed to answer your request and meet legal obligations. Purchase records are retained by Apple and RevenueCat under their own policies.

You can revoke Screen Time access in iOS Settings. You may also contact us to request access to or deletion of personal information we hold about your support correspondence.

Children

Rune is a self-directed focus tool and is not designed as a parental-control service for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through an account system.

Changes

We may update this policy as Rune changes. The effective date above shows when this version took effect.
